Vote way up for The Sex Party
Our candidate John Ince did surprisingly well in the Vancouver Point Grey riding, receiving 2.4% of the votes, 511 in total.
Our other candidates Scarlett Lake in Vancouver West End and Dietrich Pajonk in Vancouver Hastings did better than expected, garning .51% and .49% of the vote respectively. In the 2005 election, the average for the three candidates that ran then was .40%. So our numbers are going up!
Of course, our intention in fielding candidates is not to get elected but to get on the political agenda the subject that no other party will touch: sex.
Thanks to Scarlett, Dietrich and John for standing for a sex-positive future.
The loss of the STV referendum was a major disappointment. BC voters have shown a seriously conservative streak in refusing to try an innovative new electoral process. The result will spur more political apathy. This election showed a record low participation level: just 48% of elegible voters turned out at the polls! Yesterday was a sad day for democracy in our province and a harbinger of more voter disinterest in the future.
But we at The Sex Party will keep the sex-positve voice strong.
Thanks to everyone for their support.
